Spring will be arriving soon and the annual preparations for the National Cherry Blossom Festival are feverishly being made to celebrate and honor the friendship formed between the United States and Japan over 100 years ago. This enduring and close relationship between the two countries was formed when the Mayor of Tokyo, Yukio Ozaki, presented the city of Washington, DC with a gift of 3,000 cherry trees. The beautiful and aromatic cherry trees blossom each year around the arrival of spring and remind us of the cultural alliance. Our beautiful city celebrates this springtime event with a four-week long host of festivities and brings over 1.5 million people to the nation’s capital. The first celebration begins on March 18th with a Pink Tie Party to help raise money for this historic festival and bring forth community professionals from sports, social and media communities in a gala-type fashion. But that’s not all for March, as you can bring the kids out to Family Day on the 26th to enjoy this free outdoor attraction and learn Zen garden formations. Opening Ceremonies at the Warner Theatre begin at 5:30 and will thrill you with American and Japanese entertainment. April showers bring May flowers, but hopefully the rain will stay away so you can enjoy the many outdoor festivities planned from awe-inspiring kites to the elaborate National Cherry Blossom Parade set to roll out on April 16th. DoubleTree by Hilton Bethesda’s professional and courteous staff is here to lavish you with our comforting amenities and accommodations. Let us take the worry away, and help with planning so you don’t miss anything this beautiful city offers. Only minutes away from the Cherry Blossom Festival, as well as shopping, restaurants and historic sites, we are your home away from home in the DC area.
